In 2009, York Promoter, Chris Sherrington, had a strange dream where he was visited by Jim Morrison.....
No that's not really what happened but wouldn't that make a great film...
It was 2009 though and the festival founder did have a strange vision of sorts. After promoting clubnights and gigs in York for over 10 years, Chris wanted to shake up the UK music scene and also support the local music venues that he had worked at, whilst they suffered during the Summer months when everyone seemed to camp in a field.
Instead of having a goth, punk or industrial festival, why not try to bring the scene together with one festival that offered loads of bands in different indoor venues all within a stones throw of one another?
And so DV8 was born. Over the last 4 years the festival has stuck to it's core values of providing great bands in small venues and has diversified to include indie, shoegaze, steampunk and dance music.
At DV8 we are not trying to push one specific genre but rather place the importance on the quality of the music and the artists. The only genre here is "Great Music".
